Pelican Point Happy Hour

Happy Hour is usually a good time. And that may not just be for humans. When you’re watching this video of Pelican Point on Cholla Bay, you will likely think the birds are having a blast, too.
Sunset is my favorite time of the day. I like it so much because it gives me a magical feeling of being part of peaceful and soothing, and yet invigorating and exciting. This is true for me wherever I am.
But in Rocky Point , the sunset is often quite a colorful show. And Pelican Point on Cholla Bay is one of those places where the show never seems to disappoint.
There are plenty of great spots for sunset watching in Puerto Peñasco. Many are easier especially if you are staying in Las Conchas, in town, or along Sandy Beach. Getting there takes some time and effort. But oh, is Pelican Point on Cholla Bay worth the trip (in my humble opinion). The simplest directions I can give you is to head past Wrecked at the Reef to Cholla Bay. Once you pass the welcome sign, just keep thinking about going up higher and to the left.
When you are standing on the shore of Cholla Bay, you are facing the setting sun. This means you are basically enjoying front row seats. You can be right down on the beach or in the water. Or, there are places along the street between homes where you can watch from above the rocks, beach, and sea. Either way, the sun appears to goes down below the sea on the horizon.
But wait, there’s more. They don’t call it “Pelican Point” for nothing. Pelicans in flight are something to see. And you don’t have to consider yourself a bird watcher to marvel at them.
Pelicans give all new meaning to the term “fly fishing.” They can be like dive bombers in catching a fresh fish dinner. Their wingspan empowers them into choosing between flapping and flying high, or gliding inches above the water. On any given day, there can dozens or seemingly hundreds at a Pelican Point or Pinto Point flying, fishing, splashing down, or raising their voices.
